Whitewater is a 249 MW combined-cycle natural gas-fired cogeneration facility with fuel oil backup located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. 

GENERAL SUMMARY

The primary role of the Auxiliary Operator is to tour the plant ensuring that all plant equipment is operated within design parameters. Monitors equipment operations, making adjustments as needed to optimize performance. Monitor the performance of emissions control equipment and adjust as required to meet State and Federal permits.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Make regular rounds of equipment and correct problems as noted with equipment.

Rounds of equipment will involve, but not be limited to observing plant operations, making adjustment to optimize performance and monitoring the operations of emissions control equipment and adjusting to meet State and Federal permits.

Schedule and perform preventive maintenance and equipment repairs. Assist in plant non-routine maintenance activities.

Troubleshoot equipment that fails during operation to provide assistance to the maintenance department in identifying required repairs.

Perform laboratory quality water testing and make corrections to the process as necessary. Chemical handling is required.

Maintain a clean and safe plant environment.

Maintain accurate records of plant operations. Review and analyze records for pending failures.

Develop and implement the budget for assigned systems.

Operate the demineralization system to support plant operations.

Conduct plant equipment startups and shutdowns at the direction of the Control Room Operator.

Conduct weekly and monthly check sheets.

Assist with the Plant Training Program. Be a resource for other technicians in the program, and provide feedback/documentation to the Lead Operator.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as assigned.

Cover Flex Leaves and Disability leaves as required during Relief Week.

Perform other duties as required by plant conditions.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Auxiliary Operator operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. The Auxiliary Operator encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines.

The Auxiliary Operator must perform work in a safe manner, in compliance with all environmental permits. Auxiliary Operators must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. Auxiliary Operators must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. Be proactive in seeking responsibility to support the business needs of the company.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Auxiliary Operator reports to the O&M Manager and responds to direction from the Control Room Operator and/or Lead Operator. The Auxiliary Operator responds to direction from the Leads during relief week.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical requirements include: working on feet for 12 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. Employees will abide with extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

 

 

 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Individual must be a high school graduate or equivalent. At least three years experience in a power/process environment is required. The individual should have worked with high-pressure turbines, gas fired boilers and should be familiar with associated equipment. All individuals must demonstrate a strong aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability and production control. Individual is required to furnish all basic and hand tools according to a list provided by the company.
