NAES Corporation is the energy industry's largest independent, third-party provider of operations and maintenance services, and also serves the industry with specialized support services, gas and steam turbine inspections, mechanical shop repairs, electrical and mechanical construction and maintenance, and the placement of technical personnel.  NAES is a full service provider offering a complete array of services dedicated to making facilities run more safely, reliably and cost-effectively.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) Project consists of ten small Clean Power Plants (SCPP) located in 6 different sites throughout New York City. They are centrally controlled from a control room in Astoria, NY. The 6 sites operate 10 General Electric LM6000 combustion turbines operating in simple cycle mode. Total capacity from these plants is approximately 450 megawatts. 


The Area Manager is responsible for directing all Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities at all of the plant sites. The Area Manager assures that an adequate supply of manpower, tools, equipment, and spare parts are available at all times to provide for the safe and efficient operation of the plants. The Area Manager assures that all the plant sites are operated in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and power generating requirements.


Responsible for ensuring that all plant personnel and plant objectives are in alignment with client requirements.

Administer the plant's Safety, Operations, Maintenance, Administrative, Training, Chemistry and Environmental QA/QC programs to assure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant.

Manage and oversee the performance of planned and unplanned plant outages.

Implement training and qualification programs to assure that plant procedures are understood and properly followed by all plant personnel.

Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to assure that they reflect current plant operating requirements.

Direct the sourcing, screening and hiring of new or replacement personnel as needed.

Verify that the certification status of affected operation and maintenance personnel is maintained current.

Ensure that the morale and motivation of plant personnel is maintained at a high level at all times.

Oversee the preparation of required client and utility reports, budgets, environmental compliance reports, etc.


The Area Manager determines own practices and procedures, contributing to the development of new concepts, and performing duties independently with only general directions given.  Decisions are made within policy constraints.  The Area Manager encounters new and varied work situations, extremely complex in nature.

The Area Manager is accountable for the plants' long-range planning.  The Area Manager must effectively communicate information to the Vice President, Power Plant Operations/Technical Services, Plant Supervisors and client representatives relative to the overall operations of the plant.  The Area Manager must perform duties, and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties, in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.  The Area Manager must perform duties, and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties, in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

The Area Manager provides reports to client and NAES Corporate Office as required; a typical monthly executive report is compiled, refined, and sent a week after month's end.

Keeps all training requirements current for self and all employees, i.e. New Hire Training, First Aid, CPR, OSHA and coordinates training schedules with management and employees. Uses Web Based GPi Learn and other available training modules, seminars, and courses as available and offered by NAES Corporation

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.


The Area Manager reports to the Division Director at NAES Headquarters, and supervises all site management and employees and the Office Administrator. The Area Manager is the single point of contact between NAES Corporation and the Owner on all matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the plants. The Area Manager cooperates with other NAES Corporation division managers as needed.


Physical requirements include:  possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing.  Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.  "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program.  This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening.  There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.


Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required.  10+ years of power plant or similar experience required.  At least 3 years experience supervising technical, supervisory and administrative personnel.  Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
