The Inventory Specialist compiles records of amount, type, and value of material or stock in hand. He or she issues materials, monitors reorder points and initiates action to replenish stock. He or she receives, records, and stocks supplies and maintains an orderly and organized warehouse.


Perform daily warehouse activities, provide site purchasing support and assist the Buyer as necessary. 
Expedite purchase orders and related transactions as required by the site personnel or Purchasing Manager
Assists maintenance technicians as needed for parts, etc.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of warehouse and tool room.
Receives, stocks, and issues all parts and supplies from warehouse.
Provides receiving documentation to accounting to allow processing of invoices.
Reviews inventory supplies on an ongoing basis to assure orders for inventory items are placed in a timely fashion and inventories are consistently at proper levels.
Represents the plant in dealings with equipment vendors, parts suppliers and contractors delivering materials to the plant.
Performs warehouse asset inventory.
Assists in other plant activities, as assigned.


The Inventory Specialist operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The Inventory Specialist encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. 
The Inventory Specialist must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, and in compliance with all safety regulations and environmental permits at all times. The Inventory Specialist must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant employees, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Inventory Specialist must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

All employees have the responsibility to both the customers and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.


The Inventory Specialist reports to the Plant Manager. The Inventory Specialist works in cooperation with all departments on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.


Physical requirements include: working on feet, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, etc.)
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.


Associate's Degree in business, finance, accounting, information systems or related field or equivalent work experience. 
Minimum of five years experience in material handling
Two years power plant experience with component level understanding of machinery and equipment in the plant preferred.
Strong computer skills with particular emphasis on computerized maintenance management systems and Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of purchasing practices is beneficial.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others. Good oral and written communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to adapt to change, prioritize tasks and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Forklift experience with either valid certification, or ability to obtain forklift operator certification.
