Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration Partners, L.P. is situated within the historic Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York and supplies all of the steam and electric needs of the Navy Yard. While the Navy Yard continues to support the merchant marine industry, its primary function is now to host a diverse community of small commercial and light industrial tenants that provide essential goods and services to the City of New York and to the world. Besides providing the energy needs of the Navy Yard, the cogeneration plant is a strategic supplier of steam and electricity to Consolidated Edison Company and in turn is a leading provider of electricity and steam to the City of New York.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment. The Maintenance Manager manages the implementation of the plant's Maintenance Program and identifies those items which need improvement or additional work. The Maintenance Manager works with the plant operating staff to assure plant facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition at all times.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Oversee the activities of maintenance personnel in performing maintenance and repair activities.Implement the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records, and provide trend information to the Plant Manager.

Provide task lists and schedules for plant maintenance and contractor personnel for normal operating periods, planned outage periods, and forced outage situations.

Maintain the plant's Maintenance Manual and assure that vendor maintenance and repair manuals are properly filed and kept up-to-date.

Sustain the morale and motivation of maintenance personnel and handle employee grievances as they arise.

Assist with the location, screening and hiring of maintenance personnel.

Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Maintenance Manager operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The Maintenance Manager encounters new and varied work situations, involving a high degree of complexity.The Maintenance Manager must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Maintenance Manager must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and subordinate plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The Maintenance Manager must ensure duties are performed in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager, and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Manager cooperates with the Operations Manager as needed in the daily operation of the plant.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent experience required. 5+ years of power plant or similar experience required. Power generation or continuous manufacturing experience highly desired. Strong electrical and microprocessor based control background, strong rotating equipment experience and an ability to use personal computer based preventive and predictive maintenance tools desired. At least 2 years' experience supervising technical, supervisory and administrative personnel required. Strong leadership and motivational skills required.

NOTE: The position will be filled when NAES assumes operations and maintenance of the facility.
